The Missouri Basin Power Project (MBPP)
The Missouri Basin Power Project

The Missouri Basin Power Project is a group of six regional, consumer-owned energy organizations that teamed up to plan and build the Laramie River Station (LRS). LRS represents one of the largest consumer-owned regional joint power supply programs in the United States. Another part of the Missouri Basin Power Project is the Grayrocks Dam and Reservoir.

The Project Members Include:

  • The Wyoming Municipal Power Agency, Lusk, WY, a group of municipally owned electric systems organized to develop an additional power supply source above their present allocations from the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation.
  • Basin Electric Power Cooperative, Bismarck, ND, a wholesale power supplier for regional power supply cooperatives, which provide power to distribution cooperatives in eight states of the Missouri Basin. Basin Electric is project manager for the MBPP and operates the Laramie River Station.
  • Tri-State Generation and Transmission Association, Inc., Denver, CO, a wholesale power supplier for 34 rural electric cooperatives in western Nebraska, northeastern Colorado, and much of Wyoming.
  • The Western Minnesota Municipal Power Agency, Ortonville, MN, a group of municipally owned electric systems in Minnesota which are represented in the Project by the Missouri River Energy Services, Sioux Falls, SD.
  • Lincoln Electric System, Lincoln, NE, the largest municipally owned electric system in the Missouri Basin.
