Who is WMPA?
WMPA - Wyoming Municipal Power Agency

To put it in the simplest terms, the Wyoming Municipal Power Agency (WMPA) is the wholesale electricity provider for 8 public power communities in Wyoming. Cody, Powell, Lusk, Lingle, Guernsey, Fort Laramie, Wheatland, and Pine Bluffs are all full members of WMPA.

WMPA’s generation capacity comes from its ownership share of the Missouri Basin Power Project (MBPP), which includes the Laramie River Station (LRS). In addition, WMPA also has agreements in place to purchase federal hydropower.

In addition, the 8 member communities are joined by the remaining public power communities of Wyoming who are our Associate Members: Gillette, Torrington, Basin, and Deaver. Although the associate members do not receive power from WMPA, they do enjoy representation in WMPA’s public relations and legislative efforts.

All totaled, WMPA truly represents the public power interests of Wyoming, and public power ultimately serves 20-25% of the state’s population.

WMPA is always ready and able to serve as a source of information to Wyoming’s elected officials, consumers, or those with general interest in the electric utility industry or public power. Please let WMPA serve as your source of information in these areas as well.
